DEAD ISLAND 2 DELAYED BY ALMOST THREE MONTHS TO APRIL 2023

Dead Island 2 has been delayed by 12 weeks, with a new release date set for 28th April 2023. That’s a delay from the originally announced 3rd February release date, but good things come to those who (continue to) wait, I suppose.

DEAD ISLAND 2 DELAYED BY ALMOST THREE MONTHS TO APRIL 2023

In a statement announcing the change of release, Dambuster Studios said:

To help lessen some of that disappointment, they will be hosting a Dead Island 2 Showcase on 6th December to show off a new trailer and gameplay from the long, long-awaited zombie game.

In Dead Island 2, you are one of the few survivors left in an LA which is now swarming with zombies. Not only are you immune the whatever disease turns them into the living dead, you can leverage it to your advantage, unlocking superhuman abilities in the process.

The sequel is being developed by Nottingham-based Dambuster Studios, the team behind Homefront: The Revolution. Formerly Crytek UK, fans of the FPS genre can trace Dambuster’s lineage back to Free Radical, creators of the TimeSplitters franchise. They took the reins from Yager (Spec Ops: The Line) who were originally leading development on Dead Island 2 when it was first revealed during E3 2014.

We got to go hands on with the game at Gamescom 2022 (8 years after that original announcement), and came away suitably impressed. In our Dead Island 2 preview I wrote:

“Having spent a long time shying away from the spotlight, it’s great to see Dead Island 2 reappearing with a newfound confidence and swagger. This isn’t a game that’s still got years of development to go – it’s slated for February next year – it’s not trying to figure out what it wants to be and it’s not looking over its shoulders for what rivals are doing. It’s a straight up, pulpy melee zombie game.”
